Solid State Paddle
The QRP Works Edition of the 9A5N Solid State paddle is not activated by a change in capacitance; rather it requires an actual force on the finger pieces that triggers a pair of solid state MEMS sensors. There is no measurable movement of the arms. The force to trigger a dot or dash is software adjustable on the paddle itself. The range is 10 grams to 50 grams in 10 gram increments.
The total weight of the base and paddle is 1.1 lbs (500 gr). It has non-skid rubber feet to prevent any sliding around. There are no springs, magnets, bearings, mechanical adjustments, or contacts.
This paddle is ideal for use in the field as it is immune to humidity, dust, heat, and vibration.
It runs on two easily accessible AA batteries in the base, which are good for 700 hours of operation. There is an on/off button on the paddle and a blue light to indicate that the power is on. A standard 3.5mm jack is located at the rear of the paddle.
The QRP Works Edition of the 9A5N Solid State Paddle is shipped with a protective cover over the finger pieces. This prevents any overstress of the sensors during transport. This cover slips on and off easily and is secured with a captive thumb screw.
QRP Works designed and manufactures the smaller base and the cover for the 9A5N paddle.
The QRP Works base and cover are available for those who already have a 9A5N paddle.
